Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 27, 2025
Our Philosophy: Planzu is built on a privacy-first foundation. Your tasks, notes, and goals belong to you. We don't collect, sell, or analyze your personal data. Everything stays on your devices unless you choose to sync via iCloud.
Information We Do Not Collect
Planzu does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Your tasks, notes, or goal content
- Personal identification information
- Usage analytics or tracking data
- Crash reports containing personal data
- Location data
- Contact information
Data Storage
Local Storage
All of your Planzu data is stored locally on your device in a secure, file-based format. This includes:
- Items (your tasks, notes, and ideas)
- Contexts (organizational categories you create)
- Goals (your project objectives)
- Settings and preferences
iCloud Sync (Optional)
If you enable iCloud sync, your Planzu data is synced securely across your devices using Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Important details about iCloud sync:
- Sync is entirely optional and can be disabled at any time
- Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's iCloud security
- Your data is private to your iCloud account and is not visible to Planzu or anyone else
- Planzu never has access to your iCloud data – all sync operations happen directly between your devices and Apple's servers
- You control your iCloud data through Apple's systems
Calendar Access
What We Access
Planzu requests access to your device's calendar (EventKit) to help you schedule and organize work items alongside your calendar commitments.
How We Use Calendar Data
- Create and update events: When you schedule a work item, Planzu can create a calendar event in your default calendar
- Event linking: Created events include a PlanzuID reference in the event notes to maintain the connection between calendar events and work items
- Display in timeline: Calendar events are displayed in Planzu's Calendar view for reference and planning
- No storage of calendar data: Calendar events you didn't create through Planzu are retrieved in real-time when you view the Calendar and are not stored by Planzu
- No transmission: Calendar data never leaves your device
- Optional: You can deny calendar access and still use all other features of Planzu
Calendar Permissions
Planzu requests "Full Access to Events" permission from iOS/macOS. This allows the app to:
- Read your calendar events for display in the Calendar view
- Create new calendar events when you schedule work items
- Update events created by Planzu when you modify scheduled items
Reflective Prompts
How Prompts Work
Planzu includes a reflective prompt system that provides occasional thoughts and questions during Weekly Review. These prompts are:
- Randomly selected from a curated library of philosophical and practical wisdom
- Generated locally on your device with no external API calls
- Not personalized based on behavioral tracking – prompts are selected randomly, not based on analysis of your activity
- Privacy-preserving – the system does not analyze your task content or track your patterns
The prompt library draws from various philosophical traditions (Stoic, Zen, Minimalist, etc.) to offer diverse perspectives for reflection.
Data Export & Portability
Your data belongs to you. Planzu provides export functionality to ensure you can take your data with you at any time:
- Full data export: Export all your Planzu data as JSON files (macOS only)
- Human-readable format: Exported data is structured for easy migration to other systems
- No lock-in: You can export your data and switch to another app whenever you choose
Data Deletion
You have complete control over your data:
- Delete individual items, contexts, or goals at any time within the app
- Disable iCloud sync to remove your data from iCloud (data remains local)
- Uninstall Planzu to remove all local data from your device
- Delete Planzu data from your iCloud account through iCloud settings
No hidden data remains after uninstallation. When you delete Planzu, all local data is permanently removed from your device.
Third-Party Services
Planzu does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only external service Planzu interacts with is Apple's iCloud (if you enable sync), which is governed by Apple's privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
Planzu does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Because we don't collect any personal data from any users, Planzu is safe for users of all ages. Parents and guardians should supervise their children's use of all apps.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- For significant changes, we will notify users through the app or via email
- Continued use of Planzu after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
Your Rights
Because Planzu operates on a local-first, privacy-first model, you maintain complete control over your data:
- Right to access: All your data is accessible within the app at all times
- Right to export: You can export all your data at any time
- Right to deletion: You can delete any or all of your data at any time
- Right to opt-out: You can disable iCloud sync and calendar access at any time

Summary: Planzu is designed to respect your privacy completely. We don't collect your data, we don't track your usage, and we don't sell your information. Your tasks, goals, and thoughts are yours alone. Everything stays on your devices unless you choose to use iCloud sync – and even then, it's encrypted and private to your iCloud account. This is productivity without surveillance.
